An evening of great food and drinks, wall to wall entertainment and honoring Michigan celebrities' philanthropic efforts. "A Star is Born" gala and at Emagine Royal Oak tonight supports Variety, The Children's Charity.

Tonight, Friday, April 27, 2012, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a VIP reception, Variety, The Children's Charity http://variety-detroit.com/ hosts their signature gala A Star is Born at Emagine Royal Oak and Star Lanes (http://www.mapquest.com/?version=1.0&hk=2-v9I4RSkb) The evening features this year's Michigan Celebrity Hall of Fame inductees: Diana Lewis, legendary WXYZ-7 Action News anchor and community leader and the late Jeff Zaslow, columnist for the Wall Street Journal and bestselling author will be honored.

Proceeds from the event support Variety's mission to improve and enhance the lives of children in metro Detroit.

Diana Lewis
For more than three decades Diana Lewis has anchored WXYZ Action News. She is considered a respected face of local news and philanthropic efforts as well as a pioneer of woman on the Anchor Desk. Lewis is a Michigan Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame inductee and the recipient of two Emmys. Hundreds of organizations have honored Lewis with awards and recognitions for her service in the metro Detroit community.

Jeff Zaslow (Posthumously)
Renowned "Moving On" Wall Street Journal columnist, bestselling author and co-author, Zaslow's writing focused on stories of life transitions and the human spirit. His books include: NY Times bestseller The Last Lecture-#1 for110 weeks on NY Times Bestseller list, Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope, The Girls From Ames, Highest Duty, and his last book, The Magic Room: A Story About the Love We Wish for our Daughters. Zaslow was the recipient of countless awards including the Distinguished Column Writing Award from the New York Newspaper Publishers Association. The National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation recently named a scholarship -Jeff Zaslow College Columnist Award-in his honor.
