New york, IN (prHWY.com) April 19, 2012 - Classic games are all the rage. Every single major publisher has brought back some of the old properties to the current generation systems. The Nintendo DSI and the new Nintendo 3DS are no exceptions of course. Except on these consoles you can use an R4 DS or R4 3DS card and have access to all of the emulators you want.

One of my favorite classic systems what the Neo Geo home console. It brought real arcade quality gaming right to the home. No trimmed down versions of games with graphics that were close to the original. The Neo Geo home system games were identical to their arcade counter parts. It's what made for some of the best arcade style gaming for my friends and I ever experienced to date - and it didn't need any quarters either.

Lately I've been looking at how I could play some of those old games again. I still have my Neo Geo System and the games, but sadly the console won't power on, so I am not able to actually play the games at all. I had heard about the R4 DS and R4 3DS Cards for the Nintendo 3DS and the emulators that let you play NES games and NEO GEO Games right on your Nintendo 3DS. Other than the immediate "Seriously?" questions I had, the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. This means that I basically have a hand held / portable NES system and Neo Geo console too. I can play these games any time, anywhere, and they fit in to my pocket.

I quickly got the R4i 3DS for my Nintendo 3DS, and went to download the emulators. Low and behold - they WORK! And they work REALLY well. I was able to play every single Neo Geo game I tried. No slow down, no glitchy graphics or anything else that would take away from the experience. The NES was the same. All of the games load and run and play just as they did on my old NES system.

For the Neo Geo, I use the one and only emulator - NeoDS. It's the only one that has ever been released. Having used it now for the last month, I can see why it has no rival. It just works! I guess the motivation in making another emulator for the Neo Geo would be if the one that is available had issues or bugs. NeoDS doesn't. If you want Neo Geo games on your 3DS, this is the one to grab.

The NES system is different. There are about 4 different emulators that I have found. NesDS is the one I settled on though, because it also just works. One of the other nes emulators runs a few more games, but those games are obscure Japanese games that I would never be able to play anyway. As for all of the other games, NesDS does the trick perfectly.
