Did you shoot yourself in the foot on the way to the top of Google?

So you have a website up now and not getting traffic, you are part of the 99% for sure. With your keywords and potential clients likely numbering in the 3,000,000 to 20,000,000 Google result totals, you are actually the 99.997% who are not on the first page of Google.
This is unfortunate for your business and your livelihood since according to one recent study websites ranked number one received an average click-through rate (CTR) of 36.4 percent; number two had a CTR of 12.5 percent; and number three had a CTR of 9.5 percent.
So 68% of the people who are looking to pay for your service, click on the top 3 results.
Now you have a local business like a roofing company or plumbing service? Well you have maybe 100 good clients looking for you on any given day, and if you are not in the top 3 spots you can kiss 68 of them goodbye.
Take a look at who is in the top 3 spots, that person doing better than you are and always will.
So maybe you are on the bottom of page one? Maybe you are in the fortunate .1% of websites that makes the top 10 but not top 3?
About 15% of searching customers will click on spots #6 through #10.
How to go about fixing this issue?
Google Local has helped a lot with the service industries targeting local internet traffic without being able to compete with less relevant large national websites like Angie's list, craigslist, ServPro, Backpage or other national directory type sites.
Unfortunate for the local business, Google Local and Google Places is also getting spammed out with aggressive marketers using fake addresses and other low integrity ways to win their clients.
Review website also offers a fast track to the top for many businesses. With sites like Google, Yahoo, Yelp, Superpages, YP.com and other review sites, local businesses can get their business exposure quickly.
These review sites seem to be on a path to less effectiveness as well with the number of fake reviews and pseudo-respectable review style sites increasing. Whenever something of this nature has begun to lose accuracy and integrity it is only a matter of time before Google reacts with lowering their value in searches.
A lower value product will eventually be treated as a lower value search result.
