Santa Fe, NM (prHWY.com) March 25, 2012 - Christopher Owen Nelson's paintings of carved and manipulated acrylic represent an entirely fresh approach to traditional landscape, figurative and abstract painting. The Colorado artist exhibits his new work in Anchored and Drifting: One-Man Show of New Paintings by Christopher Owen Nelson, with an Artist's Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 25 at Waxlander Gallery and Sculpture Garden.

Born in Denver in 1979, Nelson became adept in multiple mediums at an early age. He studied at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design and quickly emerged as one of the top young talents in Denver's vibrant art community. He is one of the rare artists whose work transcends genres and the established labels of the art world.

Music plays an important role in Nelson's creative process. A musician himself, Nelson finds that music informs his art, just as art informs his music. His process involves an exploration that pushes the boundaries of scale, color and controlled emotion.

This year, he also started gardening. "It was my way of, at least temporarily, on a daily basis, entering into that world," he says. "To feel the dirt on my bare hands and to smell the fresh earth underneath me, while watching life unfold over the course of the year, and ultimately nourishing myself and my loved ones was incredibly inspiring and invigorating. Though there is no direct tie to gardening in my new work, there lies one in the portrayal of suits on clotheslines and fish on stringers, and even in some of the landscape work, suggestions of crops can be seen."
