Scottish Businesses Urged To Get Online With New ICT Engagement Programme
The Scottish Government has rolled out a new ICT programme to encourage all businesses to get online and take advantage of its many benefits.
According to Alex Neil, the Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment, 25% of Scottish businesses are not online and the new scheme has been initiated to urge small and medium sized companies (SMEs) to utilise the web.
The engagement programme, which will start in the next couple of months, involves £864,000 being invested in the Highland and Islands to help more than 350 Scottish businesses make use of the internet platform.
The scheme, dubbed the 'Digital Infrastructure Action Plan', will support companies with workshops, seminars and events to aid them to make better use of digital opportunities. Firms will also be helped to develop their own ICT action plans, and an online Business IT Guide with factsheets and diagnostics.
Those businesses that are not online will be backed to develop their knowledge and capability of trading online. It is hoped that businesses' turnover will increase which will ultimately boost the local and national economy.
The two-year programme was announced at the Think Digital Conference in Glasgow and the aim is to improve business skills and digital participation rates across Scotland. The Scottish Government has already pledged to fund £1 million each year over the next couple of years to support work to do with the digital economy.
