The new elephants were having trouble adjusting to their move from the San Diego Zoo to Reid Park Zoo.
Along with the challenging move, the harsh noise of the gates that transfer them to the exhibits was so loud that it frightened them. (By the way, elephants also feel vibrations through their feet.) These panicked elephants can cause a potentially dangerous situation.
It didn't take elephant ears to have the harsh noise bother the visitors too!
The zoo consultants A thru Z wanted to make the elephants' new home as animal friendly as possible. They decided to put a Wilkes and McLean noise and vibration suppressor on the pumps of the gates.
After the installation of the Wilkes & McLean, WM-3138-16 suppressor on the FluiDyne Piston Pump unit, the noise was virtually eliminated. The 25 hp pump is providing 33 gpm at 1400 psi through one-inch lines. The elephants are now doing much better.
The elephants and visitors at the zoo can now relax in a noise-free, natural setting. Animals and people can all benefit from peace and quiet.
