Kansas City Roofing Contractors Positive That Asphalt Shingles Can Be Repaired
Kansas City roofing contractors confirmed today that some asphalt shingles can be repaired.

"It is not true that the only kind of work that roofing contractors do is to completely re-roof a house or to replace roofing materials," MB Roofing, Inc. corrected.
Currently included in its line of repairable shingles are units that have cupped, curled, and fish-mouthed. Asphalt shingles that are in danger of wind blow-offs may also be re-secured, the company said.
The company added that basic shingle repairs could mean easier work for the crew and a smaller tab for customers.
"Apparently, what we do is more than quick fixes," MB Roofing, Inc. assured. "Our contractors and crew are currently stepping up efforts to arrive at responsible, systematic, and permanent solutions."
More than quick fixes
The company disclosed that its protocol for roof repairs involves four stages:
Stage 1: Inspections. An investigation of the roof, the attic, and the gutter come first. Damaged shingles are merely symptoms, the company explained. Inspections are critical to ensuring that the source of the problem is identified and addressed.
Stage 2: Workmanship Reviews. MB Roofing, Inc. said it is keen on reviewing any previous roof repairs. Roof manufacturing giant GAF had earlier disclosed that in two out of three cases, roofing problems are often caused by incorrect or careless installation.
In case the workmanship suggests product defects, the company will then recommend that shingles be replaced so that the re-shingled roof can perform to standards.
Stage 3: Re-Works. A localized or a complete re-work may be done if the inspection shows that the shingles merely need to be re-fastened and that nail patterns have to be angled correctly. MB Roofing, Inc. suggested that using the prescribed nail size may be enough to solve the problem in some roofs.
Stage 4: Actual Basic Repairs. The repair proper follows only after inspection and re-works are completed. Provided that the asphalt shingles are not severely distorted and are not inherently defective, the crew will try to straighten cupped, fish-mouthed, or curled units with roof sealant and nails. The team will also caulk any cracks and holes.
Changing views
Professional Kansas City roofing contractors should be honest enough to recommend only repairs for problems that are detected early, MB Roofing, Inc. stressed.
The company said that aside from upholding honesty in the roofing business, it wants to encourage less wasteful practices by changing consumer views about asphalt shingles.
It cited the abundance and availability of materials as "shallow" reasons to justify frequent replacements.
Based on estimates provided by the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA), ten out of the 11 M tons of asphalt shingles that are disposed of each year come from residential roofing jobs. The asphalt tear-offs are mostly re-processed to become pavements.
