If you are looking to play the guitar, the first thing that you will need is a guitar. You could go out and buy one or maybe borrow one from a friend. You will also want to get a pick.

A pick is recommended for a beginner. As you become a better player you may stop using the pick. Playing the guitar will require a lot of patience.

You will also want to get familiar with guitar replacement parts. Strings, for example, are prone to break. You may want to learn how to replace them yourself.

You will want to keep your fingernails short and trimmed regularly. Long nails can get in the way and prevent you from holding down the notes.

Your fingers will most likely hurt in the beginning. You are using hand muscles more than extensively than you have before. Your hands may get sore. The skin on your fingers will become sore as well. Overtime they will callus and the pain should go away.

You will want to take lessons. The more serious you take the lessons and practice, the quicker you will learn to play. It will take a lot of patience and require a love of music.

You may also want to get to know the local guitar shop. Make friends with the employees and get educated on all the guitars and guitar replacement parts.

Just remember that playing an instrument takes patience and dedication, but should also be fun.
