Commercial and Social Media now far outshines traditional sales calls to Doctors
Eczema community offers insights into the power of commercial and social media for managing disease

This year, DermaSilk.ca clothing carried out an extensive customer survey in Europe, to see how purchasers felt about the efficacy of the product. The adage "If you like us, tell your friends" was put to work.
One hundred families of children who had suffered from moderate to severe eczema and had purchased clothing for children between the ages of 3 months and 3 years were polled.
The results are below.
Quality of Life
87% of families stated that DermaSilk had had a positive effect on their overall quality of life within one month of changing to the therapeutic garments.
Itchiness
Before using the product 67% of families reported that their child suffered the highest severity of itch and only 8% reported no itch. After DermaSilk use, severe itch was reported in only 1% of families with 93% of the remaining families reporting zero to minor itching.
Dry Skin
Before changing to DermaSilk, 88% of families reported children who suffered from severe or moderately dry skin. Dry skin was reduced to only 6% after one month of use with DermaSilk garments. The 94% reported either no dry skin or mildly dry skin following the use of DermaSilk.
Sleep Disturbance
Prior to DermaSilk usage, 50% of families classified their level of broken sleep as severe and a further 16% as moderately disturbed. Following the change, 91% of families reported that their sleep disturbance was either minimal or not at all and only 4% of families still reported severe sleep disturbance.
It Keeps Us Honest
Because media releases, social media and in particular blogs are not "paid ads" both positive and negative comments are discussed. The general public is acutely aware of this and it creates greater faith in what is read, and gives the ability to provide their own feedback
"We couldn't be happier with this kind of feedback" Dan Sharp, CEO of DermaSilk Canada continues, "In this day and age when there is so much information thrown at eczema patients on a daily basis, it is comforting for sufferers to know that they can do their own research and take a proactive approach to their healthcare, and see results. We really appreciate the struggles that the eczema community goes through and are thrilled to be a real part of the solution. While DermaSilk Clothing continues to conduct clinical trials to add to the large body of evidence on the efficacy of the product, we now know that networking within eczema community is a main source of information and we appreciate this kind of feedback."
Dr Rupert Mason, upon viewing the survey results, explained why the specialist garments were so effective in the management of atopic dermatitis and eczema. "This survey clearly demonstrates that something as simple as wearing the right clothing can make a tremendous difference to eczema patients. DermaSilk's therapeutic clothing is made of a knitted medical grade silk which allows the air to move freely through the fabric, so the skin can breathe, reducing the terrible 'itch-scratch' cycle. Silk retains 30% of its own weight in moisture and helps control both body temperature and humidity. DermaSilk combines these qualities with a nontoxic antimicrobial to help combat bacterial infections. The end result is a vast improvement in managing this challenging disease, and a dramatic difference in quality of life for these families."
DermaSilk Canada guarantees their garments to improve eczema within 30 days of purchase. DermaSilk is approved as a Class 1 Medical Device and can be purchased on line from www.dermasilk.ca
