Business Advisory Service Petitions Ofgem for Better Business Gas and Electricity Contracts
Business Advisory Service (BAS), this month are urging all their customers to "have their voices heard" and help affect a change to the energy Industry.

Last year OFGEM published its proposals (http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/Markets/RetMkts/rmr/Pages/rmr.aspx) to create more effective competition within the business gas and electricity sector and from February 15th 2012 OFGEM will begin consulting on its proposed changes that they will look to make. Prior to this BAS have petitioned and encouraged all their customers to petition OFGEM with the following proposed changes to the business gas and business electricity market:
1. All business gas and business electricity bills should clearly display business gas and business electricity contract-end dates and termination procedures.
2. All business gas and electricity bills or all business gas and electricity Renewal Letters to be sent by Recorded Delivery and show the difference between the current rates being charged and the proposed renewal rates in £s and %. Business gas and electricity correspondence must also explain how and when a business must serve notice so that a business is able to prevent their business from being automatically rolled into a new contract on the renewal rates.
3. A common, single termination notice period be standardised across all business gas and business electricity suppliers.
4. Best Offer First - All suppliers that wish to retain a business at renewal must be compelled to offer their "Best Price First". This will prevent business gas and business electricity suppliers leveraging against less proactive business customers and prevent unnecessary retention calls if they choose an alternative supplier.
Simon Rand, Sales & Marketing Director at Business Advisory Service said "We have always worked on behalf of our customers and pushed for the best prices for their business gas and business electricity bills, so it comes as no surprise that we support OFGEM and encourage them to improve the layout and information found on all business energy contracts. Not only are we petitioning for change on behalf of OFGEM but BAS will continue to push our suppliers to get the very best and most competitive prices for our customers throughout the UK.
