It's been a rare thing, in the last couple of decades, as most modern windows have been fitted as plastic casement type installations: but Marvin reckons its new design for the sash could be just the thing to put some substance behind an old style again.

"People always liked the way sash windows looked," said a spokesperson for the site. "They were just a bit mechanically unreliable".

The Marvin wooden sash window has an excellent energy rating and is highly graded for retarding noise pollution, both outwards to in and the other way around. Unlike old sash windows, which used actual rope and metal wheels (the rope mouldered and the wheels rusted shut), Marvin's new wooden sash window has been made with authentic looking moving parts, that are actually constructed from sensible materials like nylon and hard wearing plastic.
