Network Rail's £5 million Office Space Plans Approved

A £5 million office space for Network Rail in Gateshead, in Tyne and Wear has finally been given the green light.

The new maintenance centre plans have been approved and now it will be constructed to help consolidate the railway network authority's regional sub depots into one single space. The two-storey building will bring together the firm's 300 staff and manage the maintenance of the railway for Northumberland and Durham as well as Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside areas.

The plans will comprise of 2010 square metres of office space and it's hoped the work will help to restore the derelict area. Developer 3R Land & Property are also creating an on-site storage facility and car/cycle parking spaces. And planning consent has been permitted for the remainder of the site to include a 138-bed hotel, restaurant, 10,000 sq. ft. of office space as well as another 150 car parking spaces.

Paul Rutter, Network Rail Maintenance Director, said: "This scheme will help regenerate a neglected area of Gateshead and create jobs for the local economy as well as delivering a fantastic new mixed-use development for the local area."
