Greatbridge, DE (prHWY.com) November 22, 2011 - For many of us, the holiday season means travelling to spend time with family and friends.

Taking to the road, rail and skies, thousands of people will be travelling over the coming weeks to celebrate the festive season.

The key to travelling at one of the busiest times of the year is organisation:

Organise any presents to be delivered directly to your final destination. Don't try to fly with presents - worse case scenario they will be unpacked at security, at best you'll be charged for the extra weight. If you can't send them directly, ship all presents in one large box ready for your arrival.

Book well in advance for bargain tickets. If you've left it a bit late, allow your plans to be flexible. Flying from a smaller airport is likely to give you more flight availability for a cheaper price. Choose early morning or late evening to fly and a non-peak day to travel back. These alternatives may not be ideal but they will save you money.

Most travellers will only wear a couple of outfits, and the rest of the packed suitcase won't see the light of the Christmas tree. Pack light, with a few staple pieces that can be mixed and matched and accessorised differently. If possible just carry hand luggage.

Plan for delays, with winter weather, traffic jams and lots of people trying to reach different destinations, it is likely your plane or train will be delayed. Pack entertainment to keep you occupied and a contact sheet with important information like hotels, car rentals and any other organsiations you will be using.
