Biak, Indonesia (prHWY.com) November 20, 2011 - The number of persons with disabilities in the world continues to increase. Data World Health Organization (WHO) showed that 10% of the world's population or about 650 million people are persons with disabilities who used to be termed with disabilities. World statistics also showed that 80% of the population with disabilities are located in developing countries. In Indonesia, which is one of the developing countries, the number of people with disabilities is estimated as many as 23 million people (10% of the total population census 2010).
The UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) defines persons with disabilities are individuals who have physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory long-term in its interaction with various barriers may hinder their participation in society as full and effective based on the principle of equality. The UN Convention sees disability as a social phenomenon that is not only related to the inability of persons with disabilities in physical functioning, but also determined by the attitude and treatment of others, as well as government policy.

Disability and Society view. Discrimination against persons with disabilities still often happens, the social inequality that occurred in the community will be deeply felt presence of persons with disabilities. Understanding and views of the public of the existence of persons with disabilities are still felt to be minimal so that the stigma of their limitations preclude persons with disabilities to fight for equality with other community members.

Accessibility for equality in the use of public buildings and government offices are still rarely implemented. For example, public transportation is not friendly to persons with disabilities, the lack of sidewalks that support for persons with disabilities, parking of vehicles that are not suitable for persons with disabilities, the elevator is too narrow and even most public facilities in some areas did not have an elevator or ramp (ramp), sanitation facilities that do not support such as no special toilets for persons with disabilities, and also a slippery road and does not mean that can not be bypassed by persons with disabilities who use wheelchairs.
