Valen Light LLC Technologies: Developing Semiconductors Using Carbon Promising
Valen Light LLC Technologies reiterated its commitment to develop energy-efficient lighting by making use of LED lighting technology in a local press conference here in Caringbah. It updated about its focus and strategy going forward.

LED was first invented in 1962 by Holonyak and Bevacqua. With the invention of nitride blue LEDs in the 1990s, average household consumption has increased more than 10 times. Valen Light has over the years introduced cutting-edge lighting products through its in-house research efforts. Valen Light has contributed in researches that help in better extraction of optical power coming out of the LED chip.
According to one estimate, around 19 per cent of total energy consumption worldwide is on lighting. There are expectations that LED lighting technology will find widespread use and reduce energy consumption significantly in the next five to eight years. LED-based lightings consume 20 per cent of the light compared to incandescent bulb ('Billion Dollar Green: Profit from the Eco Revolution,' 2008). As a consequence, expectations are high from this lighting technology, and Valen Light is passionate to introduce changes early.
Valen Light has built a rich set of technical knowhow of quantitative methods for optical, thermal, reliability modeling and simulation to make further progress. Optical design also plays a crucial role in improving the LED efficiency. For Valen Light engineers, how well light can be re-directed out of the active layers is an ongoing challenge.
Valen Light is also serious on developing semiconductor materials that use organic material carbon. Although first Light Emitting Polymers (LEP) was developed in 1990, still practical use of it in lighting technology has so far been limited. As polymers are flexible and can be changed to different forms, it is believed that LEP lighting can find their applications in much more diverse use in the near future.
