India to meet electricity demand by 2012
India Nuclear Energy Summit, a 1 day conference took place on 8th October 2010 at Hotel Westin, Mumbai where Hon'ble Union Minister of Power, Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde discussed about the "Future Opportunities & Challenges in Nuclear Energy Sector.

India Nuclear Energy Summit, a one day conference took place on 8th October 2010 at Hotel Westin, Mumbai where Hon'ble Union Minister of Power, Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Government of India, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee - Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Dr. R. K. Sinha - Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre were the key note speakers. The Nuclear Energy Summit had more than 290 delegates where the discussion was the "Future Opportunities & Challenges in Nuclear Energy Sector in India".
"According to the World Nuclear Association, the 21st Century will experience a fundamental shift toward nuclear energy. India is the second fastest growing economy in the world after China. Like all emerging economies, India offers exciting growth opportunities, especially in the energy. Many of these opportunities will come from the Energy sector, where we have several schemes in operation. The New Electricity Policy is committed to provide electricity to all the households by 2012 and has put in plans to rapidly increase power generation. My ministry has not left a single stone unturned to reach the electricity demand by 2012. Nuclear energy plays a vital role in this as it is clean, fast and sustainable," said Hon'ble Union Minister of Power, Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Government of India.
"India Energy 2010 is supported by the Ministry of Power, Government of India and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, was an excellent networking opportunity for the exhibitors, visitors and delegates covering the entire gamut of the Energy sector. The technical summit was conducted by experts from India and overseas in select areas of the nuclear industry and had cases studies presented that were topical and relevant to nuclear professionals and the end user industries. It provides an opportunity for domestic & international companies to avail of the huge untapped potential that the nuclear industry has in India," said Mr. Sanjeev Khaira, MD, UBM India.
The 11th plan will add 62,000 Mw of additional capacity of power of which a substantial percentage will be from renewable sources. This percentage will continue to grow in the coming years as a testimony to our commitment to the future generations.
The event has participation from leading Indian and International companies like Alstom, DAE, Areva, Hindustan Construction Co., Power Grid Corporation of India, BHEL, NHPC, REC, Gammon India, Electronics Corporation of India, Schneider GE Electric, Wartsila, Ingersoll Rand, GMR Group, Nuvia India, Khaitan & Co., Westinghouse, Sandvik Asia, JSW Energy, Rolls Royce. The event has also received excellent response from overseas with 62 international companies and country pavilions from France, Russia, USA, Finland.
India Nuclear Energy 2010 is co-partnered and endorsed by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. In the backdrop of recent agreements between India and various other countries and international bodies like IAEA and the NSG, this is the right event at the right time for India.
