Indore, India (prHWY.com) November 3, 2011 - Ayurveda the science of life is one the oldest system of traditional and alternative medicine. Ayurvedic literature, Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita, deal with internal medicine and surgery respectively. Ayurveda believes in healthful living for the entire span of life. According to ayurveda body needs to maintain balance of three elemental energies or humors - vata (air and space-wind), pitta (fire and water-bile) and kapha (water and earth-phlegm. Ayurvedic medical theory maintains that these three are vital for health; the body will be healthy if they exist in equal quantities or else the body will be unhealthy in various ways.

The basic idea of balancing in ayurveda is based on the Hinduism and Buddhism. The sense of balance is accentuated by restraining normal weaknesses. It is important to have self-control in whatever one does whether food intake, sleep, sexual intercourse, and the ingestion of medicine.

Ayurveda is not just a health care system but it is a type of lifestyle taken up to retain and maintain ideal balance and harmony in the human existence. Based on the principle that life signifies a magnificient management of the Atma (Soul), Mana (Mind), Indriya (Senses) and Sharira (Body). These five solid rudiments structure the Prakriti of every individual. Prakirti is established by the vital balance of the three physical energies-Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and the three mental energies-Satwa, Rajas, and Tamas. Therefore, ayurveda provides a distinctive combination of science and philosophy balancing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual factors essential for holistic health.

In Indian culture hygiene has a very important value and is also a essential practice of ayurvedic medicine. Regular bath, cleansing of teeth, proper skin care, and eye wash is a part of hygienic living along with intermittent massage with oil of the body.

According to western medicine, ayurveda is a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and it can be used along with the course of therapy.

Ayurvedic or herbal medicinal products solely contain active ingredients of one or more herbal substances, one or more herbal preparations, or one or more such herbal substances in combination with one or more such herbal preparations.

There are many herbal treatments available for various diseases or disorders that when taken under supervision as directed helps in treating many diseases ranging from common cold and sore throat, blood disorders, heart diseases, hypertension, thyroid remedies, diabetes, respiratory disorders and even cancer and HIV/AIDS.
