Rowers From Nottingham University Boat Club Attempt To Smash World Record

A team of rowers from the University of Nottingham have attempted to smash a world record for generating electricity using only human power.

Texas, TX (prHWY.com) November 2, 2011 - A team of rowers from the University of Nottingham have attempted to smash a world record for generating electricity using only human power.

The 60 rowers from the university's boat club intended to promote the use of sustainable energy technology and used five adapted rowing machines to generate 10 kilowatts of power within one day.

The aim was to highlight how much electricity is needed to run a small family home for a day and demonstrate how hard it is to produce electricity using human power alone, with a 24 hour energy producing ergo.

Jessica Fok, President of the University's boat club, said: "At first we thought it would be easy but now the prospect is very daunting. But the cause is a very good one - as well as helping the university, we are making people more aware of the need to create new ways of producing sustainable energy."

The record has not been independently verified yet by the Guinness World Records.

The team of athletes posted a picture of the challenge on their social networking site Twitter which shows that Concept 2 machines are being used.
