Will 21 October be iPhone 5 Day in the UK?

According to Know Your Mobile, the much-anticipated Apple iPhone 5 will be getting its UK launch on the 21 October.

Newcastle-under-Lyme, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) September 17, 2011 - September 17, 2011 - According to Know Your Mobile, the much-anticipated Apple iPhone 5 will be getting its UK launch on the 21 October. Unusually for this type of rumour, they've given their source too; however it's a customer services representative working for O2.

Now, in terms of who would know the iPhone 5's release schedule outside of Apple, we're not sure a customer service rep would be privy to such highly sensitive information!

That said, let's say this is a particularly well-informed rep; how likely is this to be true? Interestingly, some new date predictions have come out of the USA in the past couple of days, so let's see how they compare.

Previous rumours put iPhone 5 pre-orders as starting on 30 September, and the US launch between 7 - 14 October. Looking back to the iPhone 4, the USA and UK got the phone on the same day, 24 June 2010, nine days after pre-orders began. Would Apple stagger the release of the new iPhone? We'd be very surprised.

France Telecom's CEO disagrees with all of these dates, preferring the 15 October. This being a Saturday, it wouldn't fit with previous Apple release days, which at least the customer services rep's 21 October date - a Friday - does.

One thing's clear - again - is that no-one outside of Apple really knows what's going on! Besides, we're jumping well ahead of ourselves here, as before we get to the pre-order or release of the iPhone 5, Apple has to announce the date for the event introducing the phone to the world!

Will it be before the end of September? We're hoping so!
