Go Green at Boston GreenFest 2011
Boston GreenFest 2011 is a fully inclusive festival filled with fun learning experiences to address the important changes we need to make in our daily lives and our neighborhoods.

Boston GreenFest kicks-off on Thursday evening with a free concert. There are usually five performers scheduled from 5 pm to 9 pm. A Native-American drum and dance ceremony will start the concert which will feature the youth winners of, Music On and Up -- Mike Casey Jazz Sextet, Zili Misik, and national R&B favorites, Ahmir. Starting on Friday, all stages are open, including the Family Stage, EcoStage, EcoFashion Stage, and Main Stage. There are small and large acts throughout the day, but some main acts are reserved for the evening. On Saturday, there will be a GreenSoul Stage from Noon-7 pm. Also, there will be a "Spillover Stage" at the Hard Rock Cafe, every evening when the Main Stage closes until 1:30 am.
The variety and diversity of artists is incredible, including belly dancers, ballet dancers, folk singers and dancers, Latin, Gypsy, Brazilian, and Cape Verdean entertainers, with other live performances such as a real play and a (likely) appearance by a green mascot. This year, Friday night will be Noche Latina, with a mix of local and national performers, flamenco and folklorico dancing and an EcoSalsa Fashion Show. At 5 pm, Alexanderia the Great, female reincarnation of Houdini, will escape from a see-through bin, submerged under water, in front of everyone's eyes! Saturday night features Mamadou from Senegal along with other African and Haitian performers.
There will be many free children's activities at the Boston GreenFest including face painting, puppets, magicians, and maybe even a yo-yo show. For adults, there will be exhibits such as: EcoFashion, featuring the latest styles; EcoCafe, offering ethnic, organic, natural and vegetarian foods along with special EcoFood Demos with top local chefs; EcoBazaar, where one can find many eco-friendly products relating to jewelry, clothing, and other personal and household items; EcoStage where fitness, health, films, guest speakers, etc. will be presented; GreenSoul Stage, where Boston neighborhood talent will perform; and a super Green Laser Lightshow. Each year there is a One Gallon Challenge of gasoline fueled, renewable energy and hybrid vehicles that drive 100 miles from Northampton, Massachusetts to Boston on only one gallon of gasoline.
There are many sponsors of Boston GreenFest including: Apex Green Roofs, Boston Society of Architects, Cabot Creamery Cooperative, Eastern Bank, El Planeta, Go Green Web Directory, HonestTea, Massport, MBTA, Nantucket Nectars, Northern Green, Pearl's Premium, Penguin Windows, State Street, Stonyfield Farm, Sunlight Solar Energy, TD Bank and Zipcar.
