This is an upgrade compared to Mazda's existing 2.2 turbo diesel engine, with an increase in fuel efficiency of more than 20 percent compared to the previous engine. Mazda created the all new CX-5 to comply with fuel efficiency and emissions guidelines that will go into effect in 2014, making it a platform the brand will build upon in the future. Mazda plans to debut the all new CX-5 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall of 2011 and will likely release the vehicle for sale in 2012, making it a 2013 model.
