CT Nissan dealer excited for New York Taxi Upgrade

NYC turns to Nissan for the "Taxi of Tomorrow."

West Simsbury, CA (prHWY.com) August 2, 2011 - New York City has often been an international trendsetter for entertainment, fashion and food. Now it's possible that they will set the pace for automobiles as well. America's largest city finds itself bustling with over 13,000 taxis that travel about 500 million miles annually. In order to reinvent the NYC taxi, city officials created the Taxi of Tomorrow initiative. The Nissan NV200 came out on top.

During a City Hall briefing, NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg made the big announcement with Carlos Tavares, Chairman for Nissan Americas. Nissan dealers are enthusiastic about its late 2013 introduction date. Some of the key features asked for by the public include low-annoyance horns with exterior lights that indicate when the vehicle is honking, independently controlled rear air conditioning and room for four passengers and their luggage.

Tavares has been quoted saying that, "Nissan is proud to provide the next generation of taxis for the City of New York. The NV200 taxi will give Nissan the opportunity to showcase our dedication to vehicle quality and urban mobility to more than 600,000 passengers every day."
Mayor Bloomberg had a few words of his own. "The city's Taxi of Tomorrow is the Nissan NV 200-and it's going to be the safest, most comfortable and most convenient cab the city has ever had. We started this process to leverage our taxi industry's purchasing power to get the highest quality taxi."

In addition to the NV200, Nissan is letting 6 lucky drivers test out the Leaf for taxiing purposes. Used car dealers in Hartford love the Nissan Leaf because of its eco-friendly attitude. It is a completely electric vehicle, using electricity rather than gasoline.
