SUMMER IS RWC's TIME TO IMPROVE: FOR WRITERS AND CLIENTS
While summer brings fewer orders, RWC devotes more time to improving operations

This is the season when many students either take either a semester break, or a lighter course load. As a result, we see the number of orders falling off dramatically, if only temporarily. Our writers can take a much-needed break from the high pressure of constant deadlines and interpreting the needs of customers. ResearchWritingCenter.com staff can draw breath.
This could be a moment for idleness, and obsessive worrying over the opportunity cost of lost income. Alternatively, it could be, as is our usual practice, a chance to look over everything we do here, and how we do it, and come up with ways to make things better. We have a whole list of 'to do' items to address, all of which have been awaiting our attention for weeks and months.
This punch-list of issues to resolve includes minor corrective tweaks to the administrative panel, our webpage that acts as an entry point for our writers. We have been compiling a list of 'bug reports," submitted from our writers, some chronic, some recent, that need to be examined closely. ResearchWritingCenter.com's IT wizards will look into each one, and get back to the writers about any problems that have not already been corrected.
We will also look back through our correspondence with writers and customers, especially any messages dealing with disputes that we note were not fully resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Our Quality Assurance Department and Support Department will, together, review problem cases to see where enhanced procedures might help us do better in the future.
If we find an area where a clarification or a change in the way we do business would benefit writers and customers, we draft a change and start promulgating it all through the company. We make certain that any new directions are included in training, as well.
Training is a great use of the quieter periods, too. Instruction in using new equipment, mastering new software, touch-typing, problem solving, diversity training, and a host of other skills and knowledge all draw employees to the conference room frequently.
Do we need to survey writers to find out how they are using a particular function or payment method? This is when we would create such a survey instrument. Is there something that we need to ask customers regarding their use of our services? Then this is the time to develop our questionnaire or assessment tool.
This halcyon period is also a fine time to review our hard-copy reference resources. We ask, were they used enough to justify purchasing the next edition? Is there a better source?
This is when we re-shelve and go over our collection of texts used widely in syllabi around the world. We check through all the classroom study books that customers have listed in their work orders; to make sure we are not missing any important works.
We scrutinize each online databases to which we subscribe. Does its usage by ResearchWritingCenter writers justify continued expenditure? Since new products appear regularly, this is a good moment to add to our wish list.
IT folks check each workstation, and failing equipment is listed for repair, internal upgrade, or replacement. Of course, disposal follows our recently adopted policy of environmentally conscientious de-acquisition.
What better time is there to do a 'shakedown cruise' with a shiny new piece of equipment or a just-completed nifty new software program? The chances of inconveniencing masses of customers are lower, and there is more leisure to identify and solve problems.
We work year-round to make RWC the best, even in the summer!
