Taekwondo is a matter of self-improvement
When most people think of Taekwondo, they think of men and women in the white uniforms that look somewhat like pajamas spinning around to punch and kick people.

That, said Master Kyo Hwang, is only a very very small part of the Taekwondo.
"It is about becoming more self-disciplined and learning what you are capable of," he said. "It is physical and mental. It is a regimen that trains a person to be better in everything they choose to do."
Pak's Academy Prime Taekwondo & Martial Arts in Lee's Summit, MO, approaches the oriental art from a family perspective as well by offering family classes.
"This is something for everyone in the family," he said. "No matter what your age, if you can listen to some simple instructions, you can participate. We welcome everyone and no one here is going to judge you. We are all going to support you and help you achieve your goals."
Classes are also offered kids aged 4-5, as well as classes for older children, teens, adults and the elderly.
"Again, we work to meet your needs. We understand that not everyone has the same ability and capability. That is why we offer a variety of classes. One is sure to meet your needs," Master Hwana said. "We will work with you to make you feel comfortable."
Taekwondo is as much a journey as a destination, he said.
"That sounds very mystical and philosophical but it is not. Taekwondo is a form of physical and mental exercise. Taekwondo practioners learn do learn self-defense skills, but they also learn how to have self respect and respect for others while developing self confidence and teaches leadership," Master Hwang said. "In short, Taekwondo is a way to lead a happier and healthy life."
By the way, the uniform is called a dobok. It is modeled on the Japanese gi, the karate and judo uniform.
Master Hwang offers a $19.95 two-week starter course for anyone interested in learning Taekwondo.
