He owns Marshank Consulting, and one of the key company values is environmental responsibility. Fair trade and environmentalism have been guiding principles in his professional work and his personal life. Steven Marshank worked in international trade for several years. Steven Marshank also founded ClubHGH, an online importer of generic drugs. He started his career by owning two Asian import businesses in California in the 1970s. At that time, the fair trade movement was still emerging. However, Steven Marshank was on the cutting edge of fair and ethical trade practices. Unlike importers who tried to keep costs low by avoiding paying suppliers a fair price, he made sure that he purchased goods at a cost that allowed his suppliers to earn a good living and be fairly compensated for their work. Later in his career, Steven Marshank worked in the trade of gems and precious metals in the 1980s. At that time, fair trade was mostly used to promote the sale of fairly priced coffee, chocolate, and other food commodities. Steven Marshank used the ideas of the fair trade movement to guide his work in gems and metals. When he began to import herbs from Brazil, Steven Marshank realized that the fair trade movement was a good way to guide his international trade so that he would have a positive, rather than harmful, impact on the communities in which he worked.

Like many people, Steven Marshank realizes that it is essential for businesses, not only individuals, to protect and preserve the environment. All of his businesses have had a "no waste" policy, which means that office supplies and other items should be reused and recycled.
