Sensitizing people on consumer laws and rights in Mauritius
This would motivate people in Mauritius to undertake eco-friendly measures and thus contribute their best in the protection of environment.

The association was formed with the mission to defend, safeguard, and protect the rights of its members, struggle for sustainable consumption and thus lead the way for the improvement of the quality of life and environment. In addition to this the association also works for the implementation of United Nations Guidelines on Consumer Protection all through Mauritius which will go a long way to safeguard the interests of consumers and help them improve the quality of their lives.
Lead by Mr. Suttyhudeo Tengur who is the President of APEC and Mr. Anand Deeljore, the Vice president, the association has been successful in realising its goals and missions. United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection enlists all good features and best practices in consumer protection law and policy. The Guidelines act as legal policy framework for implementation by different countries of the world. Although they are not binding, but they clearly guide governments to frame their consumer protection regulations which would meet the set of laid down objectives. APEC is based in Port Louis which is the capital of Mauritius. The association of leading government school teachers and academicians work unitedly to set up, promote, assist, sponsor and co-ordinate activities and initiate actions in organisations where consumers have an interest by active cooperation and affiliation with national and International organisations who are guided with the same objectives.
The government of Mauritius takes care of consumer rights through the strict implementation of consumer protection act which makes provision for the control of trading practices and prices in Mauritius and grants powers to the Minister to control prices of goods specified in the First Schedule. Besides this there are Fair Trading Act, The Legal Metrology Act, The competition Act, The Customs Act, The Value Added Tax Act or other Trade regulations, which have been framed to promote the use of fair practices in business and trade.
Then there is the environment protection act Mauritius which came into force on September 5, 2002 and it makes mandatory for people in Mauritius to abide by the rules and regulations. People found violating the rules or regulations can be booked under proper conviction act. For more information and services you can log on to the site at www.apec.mu.
