Q: What makes B school education different from other higher education?

A: B schools in general lead you to develop a broad perspective in people management skills. It also teaches you a few basics of management. You would get to interact with people from different backgrounds and some hands on corporate experience in the form of internships, live projects, etc. this would allow you to add to your skills and knowledge and would equip you to enter/re-enter your career at a higher position of responsibility.

Q: What made you pursue a MBA?

A: I always weigh my options on a 2 factor scale: Motivation vs Ability. I realized that I was good at IT but was not really motivated to pursue it as a long term career option. MBA for me opened a plethora of options which I feel are pretty exciting, dynamic and more suited for my kind of personality.

Q: What is the most important thing in a MBA from a good institute?

A: The alumni you get to interact with, the quality of peer learning and faculty, the chance to intern and work with reputed organization are some of the most exciting aspects of MBA

Q: Can you tell me something about the importance of Infrastructure aspect of B schools?

A: It is important to quite an extent, but all top B schools do possess the basic requisite infra to support 2 years of your MBA. Basically you would need audio visual equipped classrooms, seminar halls, lecture theatres and so on along with basic connectivity requirements.

Q: And what about other resources...

A: Library and computer centers would form the basic crux and anything else would be an add-on.

Q: FMS charge just a fraction of fees in comparison to other management courses? How?

A: FMS is a part of Delhi University which provides subsidized education and so, the low cost. It does not fall drastically short of anything, except may be in my opinion possessing a fully residential campus. But, the delivery of high quality education covers everything.

Q: How much does FMS charge for its 2 yrs MBA course?

A: It's roundabout Rs. 10,000 per year.

Q: How should one choose specialization? What were your criteria for the same?

A: The curriculum that we were subjected to in the first year, the internship experience I had, the kind of information I got from my seniors, the kind project, competitions I participated and people I interacted with, all these helped me to choose my specialization. It's a cumulative thing. I have picked marketing & HR as my specialization.

Q: Did you have any work experience prior to your MBA?

A: Yes, I worked with Infosys with 20 months and I am now placed with Kraft-Cadbury.

Q: How useful is your pre-MBA wok experience? Given that one has changed his domain.

A: It depends on the domain you intend to pursue. If you are an IT professional and choose to stick to it, it would be relevant. If you have some experience with finance and marketing and want to go for it, it would again help. Switching across domains would not really make your previous experience relevant.

Q: How relevant would be engineering skills in MBA?

A: Skills might be important, but the knowledge might not be directly relevant to your job. Some skills like, analytical and soft skills related to your basic personality formation will still come in handy during your MBA.

Q: Any message to students going for GD PI rounds?

A: All the very best for your interview processes. Stay calm and have faith in your abilities. You will surely win the race.
