Worcestershire, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) March 8, 2013 - The said campaign is a similar concept which the state of Queensland used in 2009 that attracted thousands of applicants across the globe. The winner back then was British Ben Southall who became a caretaker for six months of a secluded island in the Great Barrier Reef.

According to Andrew McEvoy, Tourism Australia Managing Director, the job hunt hopes to lure the younger tourism market that is contributing 26 per cent of Australia's international arrivals and spends about US$12.2 billion in the country per annum.

In an interview, Mr. McEvoy said: "The competition provides an excellent platform to entice more young people from around the world to come to Australia to holiday, but also to work, helping to fill many unfilled tourism jobs across Australia."

The contest is open for young holidaymakers within the age bracket of 18 and 30, and whom are eligible for the Australian working holiday visa such as Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Sweden, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Applicants must upload a 30-second video to explain why they are the best person for the job. The application closes on April 10.

According to Tourism Australia, it has received about 31,000 applications with 8,000 submissions during the first two hours of the launch. Also, the Facebook page gained 160,000 likes just by late Tuesday.

While the promotional campaign is well-received by foreigners, there are some Australians who questioned why these jobs are offered to visitors while there are locals who are currently unemployed.
