Fibroids are firm, round lumps that develop in women regardless of their age and races. It is believe; more than 40 per cent of women over the age of 35 suffer from them. In fact, the research suggests that tiny fibroids almost exist in every woman.
In most cases, fibroids are no trouble at all. There are tumors which are formed because of muscle cells in the walls of the womb's blood vessels - they are benign (they don't spread around the body or become cancerous). Many women aren't even aware they have them.
Symptoms
Thought there are some possible complications that women might suffer from. These problems include
* Heavy periods (menorrhagia) and anaemia
* Severe Abdominal pain for long duration
* large fibroids can cause Bloating which can cause a visible tummy bulge
* Urinary problems - pressure from large fibroids on the bladder can make you feel like you need to go to the toilet more often
* Painful bowel movements which can cause constipation.
* Miscarriage and premature birth - fibroids are stimulated by high levels of estrogen and can increase to as much as five times their normal size during pregnancy, getting in the way of a growing baby
* Most important it can cause permanent Infertility
Fibroid can cause a cancer called a leiomyosarcoma but that happens in very rare cases.
What causes fibroids?
The exact reason of what causes fibroids is not known. However, evidence and researches have suggested that the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, can make fibroids grow. During pregnancy, when the secretion and production of hormone are high, fibroids tend to grow in number and both in size. After menopause, when the hormone levels are low, fibroids stop growing and may become smaller.
Who is affected by fibroids?
Fibroids are most likely to attack and affect women in their 30' and 40's.fibroids occurs more frequently in African-American women. Many women with fibroids have other family members with fibroids too
