Rohan however, could not make to the institute due to a few reasons. His Personal Interview below will be a self analytical account for the aspiring candidates.
1st member - Please tell us about yourself.
Rohan - Sir, I have always been a very good student fully devoted to my studies. (Shifting in his chair). My father has a good business of electrical goods while my mother is working in a bank. (Not making any eye contact) They have always taught me to study more which I always follow. I got into IIT and now wish to pursue MBA from this Institute. I have been a team lead for the last one year in Maruti Suzuki and work there for even longer shifts whenever anyone is absent.
1st member - Does it mean you have to finish others' work along with yours?
Rohan- Sir, when a particular job is to be finished and some team members are on leave, I have to ensure that I finish it even if others do not work with such sincerity.
2nd member takes over - Rohan, you have scored a good percentile. Will you still join us, if you receive a call from IIMs?
Rohan- (moving in his chair and looking at the back of his hands, hesitates to answer and fumbles something inaudible)
2nd member - You are not audible, Rohan.
Rohan - Sir, I will have to think as I have not decided on this aspect.
2nd member - You are not sure. Do you need a few seconds to decide?
Rohan- (in a low voice) No sir, I may not decide in a few seconds or a few minutes.
2nd member- Ok...Why have you chosen to pursue MBA in Operations Management?
Rohan- (Avoiding any eye contact with the interviewer) Sir, well... in fact as I am working in Operations and logistics area...I thought it proper to opt for Operations Management.
2nd member - Would you not like to change your work domain after your MBA?
Rohan - Sir, I am not sure. May be I will go for any other specialization. Since I am working in Operations, I thought it is easiest to mention the same area.
3rd member takes over- There are number of Car manufacturing companies in the world. Do you think that the manufacturing processes are different in Japanese, Korean, American and Indian automobile companies?
Rohan- (looking down) Yes, they probably are.
3rd member - Do you have a specific example where they are different?
Rohan- (in a low voice) No sir.
3rd member - Maruti Suzuki is working in Japanese collaboration and Japanese use JIT manufacturing process concept. Tell us what is 'JIT'.
Rohan - (Looking flummoxed could not answer)
3rd member - Should I repeat the question?
Rohan - No sir, I do not know what JIT is.
3rd member - Wouldn't you like to know?
Rohan - Well sir, if you could tell me...
3rd member - JIT is an inventory strategy, companies employ to increase efficiency and decrease waste by receiving goods only as they are needed in the production process, to reduce inventory costs.
Rohan - Thank you sir.
3rd member - I think as an IITian, working in auto-manufacturing sector you ought to know this!
1st member - Thank you Mr. Rohan. We have taken much of your time, best of luck.
Rohan - (Still thinking what to say and how to exit, finally speaks) - Thank you Sir. Will I be offered admission to the Institute.
3rd member - We'll see.
