London, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) February 25, 2013 - Dog sledding is among the main attractions for more than one North American winter festival this year. From likely location to less than typical spots for mushing, the sport seems to be gaining in popularity across the United States and Canada.

In New Hampshire, for example, the very first Lichtfield Winterfest will feature dog sledding as a prominent part of the festivities. In a region where it is not uncommon to see dog-pulled sleds, the residents themselves expressed their desire to race a couple of laps at the helm of one such contraption, with the activity ranking first in a survey conducted among townspeople.

Aside from the sledding itself, visitors will also get the chance to interact with Alaskan Malamute puppies from a local kennel.

Another event offering dog sledding as one of its main attractions took place in the much more unlikely town of Richmond, Virginia, where a sled dog exhibit was hosted on Feb 4. The show allowed local breeders to showcase their dogs to a curious crowd.

Finally, in the Labrador region of Canada, a local company hosted a dog sledding charity race which helped raise money to help a child who is in need of a bone marrow transplant.
