Fontana, CA (prHWY.com) February 23, 2013 - 23 February 2013 (http://www.realpharmacyrx.co/); Also referred as catscratch fever or subacute regional lymphadenitis is an amiable infectious disease that is caused due to bacteria termed as "bartonella henselae". It mainly affects the lymph nodes that withdraw the areas of immunization. This is very popular among children & adolescents since it spreads through contact with an influenced cat through a bite or scratch or when the saliva gets disposed on wounded skin. Especially, kittens are the carriers of the bacteria which get transmitted into human body. It's said that fleas are the main factors that help to spread the bacteria among cats.

* Signs & symptoms:

1. Papule or pustule near the area of injury which are the initial indications.
2. Fatigue
3. Headache.
4. Nausea
5. Feeling of inflammation of the lymph nodes.
6. Loss in weight.

* Diagnosis:

If there are symptoms of sore lymph node or a bite or scratch of the cat, your physician will immediately suspect it as a cat-scratch disease. A physical test may be conducted in order to observe the enlarged spleen. Sometimes, the swollen lymph node may form a fistula in a region amidst the skin & the leaking fluid.

Bartonella henselae IFA examination is an effective way to diagnose the infection which is caused by the bacteria. A biopsy of the lymph node can be done in order to reveal the causes of the other swollen glands.

* Treatment measures:

People with healthier immunity system, if affected with this illness, can get cured easily without any medication. Since this illness is not serious, it can be easily treated by the application of medical therapies. In some severe cases, application of the antibiotics like azithromycin has showcased better results. There are many other antibiotic drugs for the treatment of this disease which include rifampin, ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin etc.

Patients diagnosed with AIDS & those people who possess weak immunity system, if this infection affects them, it is extremely serious & should be immediately treated with antibiotics.

* Preventive methods:

Avoid the contact with cats, mainly kittens, since such kinds of activities can lead to bites or scratches. If it happens, wash your hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap & water. Make sure that the cats do not lick your open wounds, where they can easily transmit the disease.
Educate your kids to avoid the contact with unfamiliar cats which prevents the spread of this disease.
