San Diego, CA (prHWY.com) February 20, 2013 - Beer bottles and wine bottles are typically glass and are typically thrown into the trash rather than recycled. Glass is one of the easiest products to recycle, but many do not see the art and beauty that lies beneath.

"One man's garbage is another man's art as the old saying goes," said Nancy Dye Owner/Creator of Shrinky Drinks, "so I try to bring out the art inside." Dye creates custom art pieces from glass bottles. The most common products are cheese trays, bowls and other serving items.

Dye's catch phrase, "You Drink It... We Shrink It..." helps to put sense of community behind her repurposing efforts. "We transform wine and beer bottles into functional art pieces; thus 'shrinking' our carbon footprint," continues Nancy Cutler Dye, Owner/Creator of Shrinky Drinks.

With so much of recyclable material going into landfills rather than being repurposed, the amount of waste created is staggering. "I was thinking of a way to make a difference while producing a steady income. This idea came to me while sipping wine on my balcony and admiring the effects of the light shining through the bottle," Dye continued.

While beer and wine bottles make up the majority of Dye's materials, other bottles used to hold alcohol work equally well. "With so many elegant bottles used to bottle various liquors and spirits, I have an opportunity to make one of a kind pieces while eliminating a percentage of waste that would otherwise end up in the landfill. The different textures, sizes and colors of the bottles make for very attractive and functional artwork," Dye said.
