Washington, D.C. (prHWY.com) February 20, 2013 - (http://www.zeepharmacy.com) : This represents a king of infection in the eye that is caused by virus, bacteria or some allergens. It represents a crystal mucous layer which is situated on the milky element of the eye. This mainly gets stretched under the eyelid where this turns back & gets glued to the lower mucous membrane covering of the upper & lower eyelids. The swelling of the organ conjunctiva leads to conjunctivitis.

* Types:
1. Bacterial:
This leads to a certain discharge that is yellow in color that swells the eyelid & gets glued together.
2. Viral:
This is associated with the signs of flu like severe cold & cough.
3. Allergic:
This occurs when exposed to irritant like pollen grains, dust particles etc.

* Symptoms:
a. Increase of fluid level in eyes causing irritation.
b. Inflammation & itching.
c. Red swollen eyes.

* Causes:
i. Infections caused due to virus, bacteria or fungus.
ii. Certain chemical solutions or specific gases leading to irritation in the eye.
iii. An additional foreign particle that gets stuck under the eyelid.
iv. Reactions that is allergic.

* Is this infection contagious?
It's said that conjunctivitis spreads by just looking into the eyes of the affected person. Though, viral & bacterial types spread at a great speed. But the main reason behind this growing infection is direct contact with the infected person. It happens when such people rub their eyes; it allows the germs from their hands to make an entry into their hands. The unwashed hands, when in contact with any other part of the body lead to the development of such infections. Thus, a contact with handkerchief, towels, and cushions of the infected person leads to conjunctivitis.

* Treatment & precautionary measures:
It is tough not an easy task, but here are some precautionary steps to cure & overcome this infection.
1) Avoid making use of the things like cosmetics, handkerchief, and towels of the infected person.
2) Certain medical treatments like antibiotic drop solutions, ointments help to cure this infection.
3) Wash your eyes thoroughly with cold water so as to eliminate any foreign particle existing under your eyelid.
4) Make use of the specific glasses where there are foreign particles like dust & debris floating in the air.
5) Maintain a hygienic habit of cleaning your hands thoroughly when you come into contact with the things of the infected person.
