Activists Claim Indian Companies Investment Displaces Tribal Ethiopians
Indian companies which have committed to agriculture in Ethiopia are under fire from civil society organizations. The firms have already been charged of large-scale land snagging that has resulted in displacement of the tribal people there.

Discussing on the sidelines of the seminar organized by the Oakland Institute, a California-based think tank, along with ASO and Indian NGOs including Kalpavriksh, Ochalla warned the clash between the residents and traders, as observed in India, might become prevalent in Ethiopia, also.
He claimed the Indian organizations have been provided property at nearly zero cost by the Ethiopian authorities. "Our backwardness is the only guarantee for the future of the authorities. But if the Indian government or business shut its eyes to the truth and join the Ethiopian authorities in exploitation of the people there?" he asked.
He advised the Indian government and business organizations to examine the business plan with a nation or state, that was "ruled by an undemocratic government".
Indian, Chinese and Saudi Arabian organizations will be the best traders in Ethiopia's farm lands. These organizations produced plants including carnations and maize and roses}, which were of small food worth for the neighborhood residents, said Ochalla.
Anuradha Mittal, a research worker with the Oakland Institute, alleged these property offers couldn't be tracked on authorities' records, as there is no openness on these. "These are transactions that the authorities wouldn't discuss freely," she stated.
