Rupee drops on dollar short-covering, oil demand
The rupee was weighed down by strong dollar demand from oil firms on Thursday but the central bank's notification of the increase in foreign institutional investment limits in debt prompted some dollar selling by exporters. India's central bank relaxed some of the rules for foreign institutional investors (FIIs) buying into domestic debt as part of the government's long-expected $10 billion increase in corporate and government debt limits.
Dollar up vs yen on buy backs; yen's downtrend seen intact
The dollar rose against the yen on Thursday with traders attributing the move to position squaring by short-term players in the wake of the yen's bounce over the past couple of days.
Yuan edges lower in active trading, narrow movement seen
The Chinese yuan fell slightly in active trade on Thursday morning after the central bank set a slightly weaker official midpoint to reflect a small rise in the dollar index the day before. Traders said both banks and their clients expect the yuan to move narrowly in the near term and were willing to do business at current levels.
