Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects celebrates another milestone in Dubai's aviation history

Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), an organization setting the standard in airport and aviation related infrastructure developments, today (Wednesday, January 23, 2013) held the DAEP "Delivering Beyond Expectations" awards to celebrate and acknowledge their strategic partners and stakeholders who successfully delivered Concourse A, the world's first dedicated facility for the Airbus A380 at Dubai International Airport, home to Emirates Airline's growing fleet of super jumbos.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline Group, handed out the awards during the ceremony. Sheikh Ahmed was joined by H.E. Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, Suzanne Al-Anani, CEO of DAEP and Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

In addition to the major stakeholders such as Emirates Airline, Dubai Police, Dubai Airports, dnata and Dubai Duty Free, more than 45 companies were honoured during the event including: Al Jaber L.E.G.T. Engineering & Contracting LLC (ALEC); Al Naboodah Contracting LLC; Emirates Trading Agency LLC (ETA); Al Abbar Group; Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Middle East (Private) Limited; SD (Middle East) LLC; Mitsubishi Corporation; Thales International Middle East; ThyssenKrupp Elevators (UAE) LLC; and Aluminium & Light Industries Co Ltd (ALICO).

H.E. Khalifa Al Zaffin said: "The launch of Concourse A marks another important milestone in our continuing strategy to fully harness the economic potential of the emirate's aviation sector and to establish Dubai as a leading innovator in global aviation. Being the world's first purpose-built A380 Concourse, this pioneering project strongly positions Dubai as one of the world's most important aviation hubs, while giving the emirate a significant head start in addressing future demand and setting new international benchmarks. The DAEP "Delivering Beyond Expectations Awards' serves as a fitting tribute to the invaluable contributions of all involved."

Suzanne Al-Anani said: "The enthusiasm, engineering ingenuity and seamless teamwork that all contractors and suppliers have demonstrated was crucially important in achieving our strategic goals for Concourse A at Dubai International Airport. Amidst all the unique challenges in completing this unprecedented project, all entities involved delivered beyond expectations and we are truly grateful for it. The presence of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum during the awards ceremony certainly highlights how we greatly value the contributions of our strategic partners in accomplishing another major engineering breakthrough that joins Dubai's stellar portfolio of aviation projects."

The USD 3.5 billion (AED 12.8 billion) Concourse A at Dubai International Airport will accommodate 20 aircraft stands, of which 18 will be exclusively for use by the Airbus A380s, and the remaining two for the Boeing 777s. The concourse is connected to Terminal 3 via an automated people mover (APM), will further increase Dubai International's passenger handling capacity to 75 million.
