IEEE Computer Society Expands Online Learning Options for Members through TechLeader OnLine KnowledgeCenters
- IEEE Computer Society members will now have free access to a new platform containing hundreds of TechLeader OnLine courses, books, and certifications as part of their membership.

"IEEE Computer Society has a strong ongoing commitment to members' professional development," said Membership Director Violet Doan. "The Computer Society offers a broad array of products and services that help technology professionals advance their careers. But this comprehensive platform of online courses and books is in itself more than worth the cost of membership."
The TechLeader OnLine business skills courses, delivered via Skillsoft, incorporate proven learning design methodologies for effective and engaging interactive learning, and feature case studies, audio-enabled learning, practice labs, and simulations that let students try out what they've learned. The courses offer rich learning experiences with video, Flash, interactive scenarios, and interactive problem-solving case studies.
Mentoring lets learners preparing for certifications seek guidance from experts who together hold 1,000+ industry certifications. The guidance ranges from in-depth queries to daily email reminders and questions to keep learners on track.
The hundreds of TechOnLine courses, books, exams, and certifications are grouped into 16 KnowledgeCenters tailored to help Computer Society members learn about technology, management, and more.
KnowledgeCenters covering technical skills are:
* IT Security--featuring basic courses and practice labs, along with test preparation courses, 20-plus online books, and the Certified Information Security Manager, Certified Information Security Auditor, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and SSCP certifications.
* DoD Directive 8570.1--providing a variety of certifications that meet the government's certification requirement, including CompTIA, Certified Information Security Manager, and Certified Information Systems Security Professional designations.
* Java--from courses in beginning programming with Java SE 6.0 or 7 Roadmap to learning how to create applications, plus Oracle Certified Associate and the Java SE6 Programmer Certified Professionalcredentials.
* Cisco--a variety of Cisco certifications, including the Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP), Cisco Certified Internetworking Professional (CCIP) and Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) certifications for Security and Voice.
* Oracle-- featuring a healthy array of Practice Labs, and is supplemented by 20-plus online books that will further expand your knowledge base.
* MCSE/MCSA--provides the courses and exams you will need to obtain these certifications, bolstered by hands-on Practice Labs, mentoring, and Learning Sparks courses intended to inspire further thought.
* Microsoft Enterprise--supported by Practice Labs and 20-plus online books that will further expand your knowledge base.
* Microsoft Office 2010--taking a course in Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Project, or Visio can take you to the next level of expertise.
* Six Sigma--from introductory courses to courses leading to a Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
* Visual Basic--from introductory to advanced courses, supported by Practice Labs and more than 70 books, and
* Visual C#-- introductory courses all the way to advanced, supported by 70-plus online books and plenty of Practice Labs.
The Knowledge Centers covering professional skills are:
* Leadership--courses ranging from managing innovation and change to launching successful teams, giving effective presentations, delegation, and offering constructive criticism.
* Management--first-time managers' courses to advanced courses in building and maintaining trust, creating a positive work environment, and managing in a global environment.
* Project Management--courses that teach project management essentials, from creating and defining a project to leading teams and measuring results, plus the Project Management Professional certificate.
* Professional Foundations--online courses in communication basics, being an effective team member, or dealing with difficult people to improve your performance in an organization.
* Call Centers--courses steering technology professionals in the right direction for learning best communications practices, developing effective listening skills, or working in call center teams.
