New Delhi, India ( January 17, 2013 - The once dying scooter segment is back on roll in India with no less than four new launches in the 2012 calendar year. Sales have been growing due to the rising demand for automatic scooters or scooterettes as they are often referred to. Market leader Honda has been enjoying a steady growth thanks to its varied portfolio of three different models, namely the Dio, Activa and Aviator and hence sold 1,19,276 units in November 2012.

Looking at biting a chunk of the growing segment, this year witnessed the entry of two manufacturers in the scooter segment. Piaggio launched the LX125 in the premium segment while Yamaha had tried to garner the attention of the fair sex with the Ray. Other two launches were done by Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp with the Swish and Maestro respectively, joining TVS, Honda and Mahindra for a fist fight in the Indian scooter segment.
Umang Kumar, Co-Founder and CEO adds, "Due to ever increasing congestion on city roads, the need for a fuss-free and easy to ride two-wheeler has been increasing. These scooters, thanks to an automatic or a CVT transmission offer a no hassle riding experience which makes city commute a breeze. Infact, there are powerful 125cc options like the Suzuki Swish too which means they can not only keep up with the traffic, but zip past fast moving vehicles as well."
India is also witnessing a growing trend of youngsters wanting to break free and be independent. Hence, these scooters make perfect sense for them, especially the fair sex, who do not wish to rely on parents or public transport for their daily commute to college or classes. The generous under-seat storage space and small luggage hooks further makes these practical, indirectly helping out the fast moving younger generation.
"Scooters being tough to ride and slow are a thing of the past. Modern day offerings are pretty powerful and offer zippy performance for city use. They are smooth and offer pretty good fuel economy ranging between 40-45kmpl as well. Lastly, manufacturers are now offering disc brakes for added safety and the ever present self-starter makes life easier on a daily basis too" says Bunny Punia, Associate Editor at offers all the data on these new generation scooters including pricing across India, detailed specifications and ofcourse pictures. The comparison tool further helps buyers in narrowing down their research to the final options. Lastly, the review section also features detailed road tests of some of the newer models with explanation on various parameters. For more on the scooters available in India, log onto
